Jill Ashforth is a Scottish artist based in Edinburgh. Her influences include abstract expressionist Jon Schueler, Richard Diebenkorn and Mark Rothko. Her landscapes are often begun in situ and completed back at her studio. There is a meditative feel to much of her work and Jill evokes this ethereal nature in the many forms her art work takes.
Enjoy one to one tuition with an experienced teacher and artist in her own studio. Your lessons will be designed to meet your indiviidual requirements and can include sketching at some of Edinburgh's beauty spots.

I have been working on a video poem entitled Dawn and Dusk and it is now complete. I wanted to create a piece which was about beginnings and endings, something my life recently has been full of. To do this I filmed a piece of sky every dawn and dusk from the Autumn equinox to the Winter solstice. I used two poems entitled Dawn and Dusk which were written by me in the summer and in the winter. Polar opposites fascinate me. I used the Brian Eno app Bloom to create a sound track for it which is effective in its simplicity and has a meditative feel to it.
The video poem was first shown at my exhibition at The Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh.
